Automating

Brain Fluid Management

Cerebrospinal Fluid

A colorless fluid crucial to brain function. CSF is responsible for nutrient delivery to neurons and metabolic waste clearance via the glymphatic system. The brain floats in CSF, providing both buoyancy and protection. CSF is continously produced and reabsorbed by the brain. Disrupting this balance can cause dangerous changes in intracranial pressure (ICP) and brain blood flow leading to life-long disability if left untreated.

Nursing Automated

Managing acute CSF drainage today relies on external ventricular drains (EVD) or lumbar drains that are labor intensive for ICU nurses, miserable for patients, and inefficient for hospitals, resulting in limited access. The BrainSpace Intellidrop automates CSF drainage at the bedside and includes a wearable transducer that eliminates the need for leveling or zeroing. This reduces nursing effort and improves patient experience. Over time, these benefits are expected to support patient mobilization, help relieve staffing challenges & transfers, reduce ICU length of stay, and improve access.

Precision Personalized

The Intellidrop offers single-drop drainage control while preserving the gravity-based approach neurosurgeons trust. We combine continuous sensing, robotic precision and closed-loop automation, to offer clinicians optimal pressure or volume targets personalized for each patient.

Data Contextualized

The Intellidrop generates high frequency multimodal data and can be configured to autonomously self-annotate in real-time, eliminating 8 hours of data cleaning per patient and unlocking scalable AI training data for research use.

Flywheel Unlocked

Millions of patients worldwide need acute CSF management to protect the brain and help it heal after TBI,  Hemorrhagic Stroke, Meningitis, brain tumor resection, and a number of other conditions. External CSF drainage is also a critical step in evaluating for Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus, a condition marked by dementia, urinary incontinence, and gait & balance challenges. In-hospital drainage informs whether a patient would likely see symptom reversal with surgery.

What if Physical AI allowed each patient to not only benefit from a better experience for themselves, but contribute to the future of brain health for us all?
